Advocacy Letter by Torrie Revell
For the advocacy paper I wrote a letter to the warden of Rockingham/Harrisonburg Regional Jail discussing the lack of physical activity provided to inmates and the denied benefit that this provides. Regular exercise boosts mood and lowers rate of anxiety and depression due to the release of endorphins, or "happy hormone." This can then improve self-esteem, sleep, and overall prison morale, and decreases violence, feelings of helplessness and health care costs.
I believe this is one of my best pieces of work this semester because I feel strongly about the benefits of exercise, which, combined with research, makes a compelling and convincing argument.
